Sword of the Valiant: The Legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (1984)

 

This is very bad. The director made exact same movie in 1973, was 100x better than this. A lot of the script is copied 1-1. However, this script uses much simpler English. Gawain is kind of famous for wearing the pentangle. No such sign in this movie. That's terrible because these medieval stories are all about signs and allegories and interpretations. There isn't any medieval Christian sprirituality in this, in the '73 version there is. It's playing in the christian middle ages, so not putting that in there is pretty stupid. The 1973 movie has much better acting, much better music, this music is horrendous, zero middle ages style and totally 80s. Sean Connery is not good in this, the green knight in 73 version is fabulous. Linet the lover of Gawain is much better in 1973 and talks and acts and looks much better, King Arthur in '73 version is much better. Basically, this is heinous, 2 stars. This was made for the stupid in 1984, but today stupid would be way worse hehehe.
